The House of Russo
In the Beginning
The first to drive the Muslims from the lands of the Christians in Southern Italy was Vittore Russo, aided by his close friend Salvatore Cosenza. They lead a revolt, beginning in San Donato, which spread southwards and eventually into Sicily. The Muslim defeat was so profound that the merchants and priests elevated Vittore and Salvatore as The First Dukes of a United Calabrian Republic.

Government Structure
The Calabrian Republic's government structure is simple. Each territory (on the map) has it's own collection of mayors, governors, and judges, elected by the people. These governments are headed by a noble, as indicated in a previous post. The only obvious exception to this structure is the Islamic Principality of Malta, which has it's own way of doing things, more like a monarchy. So, the people elect their local leaders, then these leaders meet when needed in their respective seats of government to lobby for legislation from the nobility of the territory. The Sicilian Federation is slightly different, where the people elect the local leaders, who in turn lobby the Counts (same principle, different name).
Above that is the national government. The Dukes of the realm are on equal footing to the Viceroy of the Sicilian Federation and the Prince of Malta. They all meet once per year in San Donato at the Estate of the Archduke where they discuss matters of national importance. The Archduke has the final say in all these matters.

Main Seafaring Routes
As a largely peaceful nation with a strong economy it is prudent to post the following map detailing the main navigational routes taken by Calabrian Traders.

Regarding Territory in the Balkans
A NOTE REGARDING WEAK TERRITORY CLAIMS
Due to ongoing military, religious, and political efforts:
The Montenegrin Marches is currently projecting power into Kosovo (roughly northeast) and Travunia (roughly northwest).
So says Margravio Mario Rossi, at the behest of Archduke Saverio II
