The Baltic Lands JEGXd

The Baltic Lands

The Gepidaen Order has fallen during the civil war, but the Order of St. George has taken it's place. Though the new order was not able to save all of the former realm from falling to anarchy, or to foreign hands, it holds now a strong grip on the Baltic coast.

Even though Prince-Grand Master Stephan is absent, General Aldwyn, Commander Vajk Aba, and Count Reuben rule the lands in his place.

General Aldwyn has sent out orders of mobilization, even though no such orders have been given by the Prince-Grand Master himself.

General Aldwyn wrote:"To all Lords of the Order of Saint George

By God's grace and wisdom,
all Lords who have taken their oaths to serve, and all men who are serving them,
are now ordered to rally under the banners, with the following numbers and in the following places:
Under the banner of General Aldwyn, 2000 men, to Königsberg;
Under the banner of Commander Vajk, 2000 men, to Tannenberg;
Under the banner of Count Reuben, 2000 men, to Riga.

All who do not answer the call and rally a week after receiving the message, and serve no excuse, such as death, illness, et cetera; are to face the High Court.

So ordered, by
General of the Order of Saint George
Aldwyn of Laibach

under authorization of command from Prince-Grand Master Stephan Konsky
"

The exact plans of General Aldwyn are unknown, but with all possibilities considered, the newly founded jihadist, muslim state is the enemy. The muslim state is currently cutting the realm of the Order of St. George into two - an unpresentable condition when Prince-Grand Master Stephan returns...

War, has been brought again to the Baltic Lands...

The Baltic Lands Empty Re: The Baltic Lands

A Longboat arrives Königsberg. Onboard are around 35 men. Many people stare at the Vikings anxiously, some even calling the guards. A man with a grand beard, dressed in chain mail armour with a thick coat lying on top, gets off the boat. His head and face are guarded by a large helmet made of steel and hide. He removes his helmet and reveals his long blonde hair.

(What languages do your people speak?)

*In German* "Do not fear us, people of Königsberg. I am Karl Knudsson, a messenger of the Jarldom of Knirfoggsen. I am here on the orders of Grand Jarl Harald to speak with the General. I hope you don't mind if we stop here. If you do, we'll just pillage you." he grins.

After a short pause, he yells "Just joking! You all almost pissed your pants!". He begins to laugh, and the other Knirfoggsenian men join him. "Now, where is the general?"

General Aldwyn

The General came to meet the vikings shorty, in about thirty minutes after they have arrived. He was dressed in western armour, as if always ready for a fight.

"I am General of the Order of Saint George, by authorization of Prince-Grand Master Stephan of House Konsky, Aldwyn of Laibach.
"

The general waited with continuing after the guardsmen arrived, almost a hundred. Everyone, including the locals, stared at the vikings questioningly.

"What is your business in Königsberg? You can talk openly, the Order has no secrets infront of the people it protects. "

"We come bearing a message. The Grand Jarl would like to have a military pact. The rest is better discussed in private. To sum it up for your people, it concerns expelling Balajilad."

Karl then extends his hand expecting a handshake. 6 other vikings step off the boat, to which the people are frightened. They smile in an attempt to calm the populace.

General Aldwyn

The general smiled, and shook the hand of the viking. When the locals saw this, they were clearly relieved - now the guards began telling them to scatter and mind their own business.
"Let us discuss in private then." Aldwyn said, while walking beside Karl. Once they've reached the fort of Königsberg, the general led Karl into the nearest building, and shooed everyone inside to leave. They've left all guards outside.

"What is it you had in your mind?" He asked, when he made sure nobody listened.

"Well, Balajilad has no place in Europe. The Grand Jarl wants them gone, as do you. He proposes a joint military pact, just until we get rid of Balajilad. Once defeated, you can take the province, We just want our fair share of treasure. Would this interest you?" Karl says in a low deep voice.

General Aldwyn

"You can plunder, but you can only plunder the treasures of heathens. No christian shall be harmed, in any way. Is that a deal to you?"

Aldwyn asked, and extended a hand towards Karl.

Count Reuben

“We’re going to have nothing to hold onto your county when your army marches, brother,” Simeon warned Count Reuben.  “Why is the Prince-Grand Master making this move now, when he can’t oversee it himself?”

“He probably isn’t.  It’s not his style to move his men to war and not go with them.  I think Aldwyn is acting on his own cognizance.”

“That sounds treasonous.”

“It could be.  But I have to answer, or I am the one in treason.  The Order of Saint George marches.  I will answer to the Prince when he returns.”

“Does Aldwyn even know the truth of-”

“No.  Only the Prince is aware of the truth of our faith, as well as any of the other peculiarities of our family.”

“Who will you take with you on the march?”

“You, Menasseh, Naftali, Issachar and Dan.  I’ll leave Asher as my regent, Gad will see to the militia, what little remains of it.”

“Alright, brother.  I’ll let the others know what is coming."

"Very well." Karl said. He shook his hand and brought out a letter.

He opened it and slid it across to the General.
*In German*
'To whomever this may concern,
I am Grand Jarl Harald of Knirfoggsen. Now you may have met my messenger, and he must have told you of our pact we wanted to introduce. If you accepted, I would like to ask something. I would like to leave Karl as an ambassador. He would have brought his family and a trusted friend. I ask that you give him accomodation along with his family and friend. We hope you agree, and consider sending an ambassador, diplomat or even missionary. We will treat him with the same respect as you showed Karl.
With respect,
Grand Jarl of the Swedish and King of the Estonians,
Grand Jarl Harald

Aldwyn Laibach

The General read the message carefully. He nodded in agreement and sent a servant to provide the things needed for Karl and his family.

"You're welcome here. But I am not authorized to send any emissary without consulting the Prince Grand-Marshal first. Now as you see we are rallying our men. I want to send word for your ruler to support us by cutting off the heathen's lands from getting any resources or supplies through the seas. When our armies break into their lands, then you can land your troops, and loot the heathen's gold, as we agreed on."

Aldwyn walked out of the room, still talking to Karl.

"Who is it who commands these men? " He asked before a messenger carried a short letter to him. He read it, and dictated an answer in Croatian, which the messenger wrote down while walking.

General Aldwyn wrote:"To Commander Vajk and Count Reuben

Greetings and Glory to God!

Seven days from now and the Holy Armies of the Order of Saint George shall launch their attack against the heathens who infest these lands like vermin. The following orders are to be followed, as plan of the campaign:

- Under the leadership of General Aldwyn, the first army shall attack the heathen lands from the south, and march towards Libau.

- Under the leadership of Commander Vajk, the second army shall attack the heathen lands from the east, and march towards Libau.

- Under the leadership of Count Reuben, the third army shall attack the heathen lands from the north, and march towards Libau.

- The three armies shall continuously push forward and trap the enemy into Libau. Once all three armies arrive at the city, the siege shall begin.

So ordered, by
General of the Order of Saint George
Aldwyn of Laibach

under authorization of command from Prince-Grand Master Stephan Konsky"

"Well, Grand Jarl Harald will command the army to give his son experience on the battlefield. I will send my ship back to give a message on your plans. Expect a quick response. Would you mind telling me how we shall be signalled to attack?" Karl replied after the brief meeting between the General and the messenger.

Count Reuben

Count Reuben read the letter, nodded, then folded it and placed it in a pocket.

"There are those words again. Authorization of command. Still seems to me Aldwyn is operating without the Prince's knowledge."

"Do you suppose the Prince will not approve of his actions?" asked Simeon.

"It will likely depend on the success of them. If the Moselmen are driven out, then he will probably be celebrated. If not, who knows how the Prince will react."

"And what of our men if this fails?"

"We will be cautious on our campaign. Risk only that which is needed. Aldwyn will likely be unhappy with us for being so much slower but I can survive his displeasure as long as I am not disobedient."

General Aldwyn

After weeks, the whole army has assembled and the Muslims seemed easy to crush. Encircled, deprived of their reinforcements and supplies, they've kept pulling back to the city of Libau, to their doom.

Once all 3 armies of General Aldwyn, Commander Vajk and Count Reuben have arrived at the city, the siege has begun. The troops encircled the city, and the Viking raiders captured every ship or boat trying to smuggle supplies. The sign of attack, however, was not yet given to the Vikings, which was going to be a flying falcon with a blood red ribbon tied to it's leg. Commander Vajk was insulted that his pet falcon was going to be used as a signal but he swallowed his pride - his position was more important than a bird.

When all have arrived, General Aldwyn instantly called for Count Reuben and Commander Vajk to meet in his tent.

"Count, Commander! Welcome to the city of Libau! I hope your fights were easy and your journey was safe?"

Count Reuben

“The moselmen were far from home and had little love for this land,” replied Count Reuben. “They were easily dispersed on promise of safe passage and the land has been reclaimed for the Prince-Grandmaster. Seems this is the last hold out of the Muhammedans in the north. What plans for the siege?”

General Aldwyn

"I don't want a bloodshed. We will starve them out... The agreement of the Northmen lasts, they are blockading the city. They have no way of getting any food so they will not last long. But stay prepared for an assault and order your men and engineers to build siege engines. Commander Vajk will patrol the surrounding lands with his nomads to find possible threats and eliminate them. By the time Prince Grand-Master Stephan returns this city will be ours. "

Count Reuben

"At once, sir," Reuben replied and motioned Simeon off to begin preparing engines of the siege. "A clever ruse by the Prince Grand-Master. I am sure that the Sheik Hadi did not anticipate the Order marching while he was not here to oversee the assault himself. Indeed, it caught me much by surprise as well."

General Aldwyn

"Now, Count Reuben." Aldwyn turned to the Count hand with a motion of hand, sent the rest of the people out of his tent. The Prince Grand-Master has sent me a letter. He is currently still in Constantinople to marry and seeks to return immediately to the Order. He told me in this letter that he has great plans for the Order and I need to know whom we can trust in the future. You see, there are many people in this Order who have joined out of adventure and lust for fame, wealth, et cetera... Aldwyn left a brief pause, let out a short sigh and waved his hand lazily. I know you are not such a man but the Prince Grand-Master will ask me to report and I need something to tell him. What are your intentions within the Order? Why did you decide to join, and what about your past?

Count Reuben

"My intentions are to tend my lands, take a wife and have fifty fat children. My days as an adventurer are long past. We signed on into the Prince's service so that we could settle down and live the rest of our lives. If the prince has need of our services, we will of course answer the call. He has been good to us. But it is my preference to stay home. Be with my brothers. And find a woman to grow old with. This is all I want. Let the great princes vie for Europe. They can find me in Riga when they need me."

Commander Aldwyn

"Good. I think we have a bright future he-" A panting messenger has interrupted the Commander and left quickly after leaving him with a small scroll. The Commander read it and nodded to himself.

"The Prince-Grand Master is finally on his way back to the Order. He leaves his wife in Varasd and heads straight north to come here. Should we finish the siege before he arrives? That would be the best wedding gift from us to the Prince." The Commander laughed, and went back to his battle plans and showed Reuben his plans for a possible assault from two sides, supported by siege engines. "Also, if you want a good wife, I can help you find a good Varasdian woman!" he added.

Prince Aldwyn

The Prince-Grand Master has arrived to the Baltic lands already when the siege was over. He arrived with a humble company - only soldiers, and a handful of priests were coming with him. As his highest ranking nobles were already there at the arrival, he instantly called a meeting with them. Once both Count Reuben, General Aldwyn, and Commander Vajk were there, greeted them in a friendly matter.

"My good men. I must tell you how much of a wonderful work you did in these realms while I was gone to Constantinople. But I hope you know that the defenders of Christendom can never rest. Once order is established, we are to depart these lands with all our armies and march south."
