Map discussion thread
Greetings, Medievals!
This thread was made for all your map-and-cartography related discussions!
If you need help making your national map, or you have something you want to mention about our regional map, comment or ask advice about expansions, or basically anything that has something to do with maps, post it here!
Re: Map discussion thread
Scilenia: if you're gonna claim Kosovo as part of the Birthday Land Grab just know you're about to have 6000 Calabrian troops and 2000 Varasdian warriors marching on it from the Montenegrin Marches. All is detailed in the Regional Groups forum under "The Balkan Confederation".

Varasd said I can claim it. Anyway, you can hunt the boilmegels or whatever they are called. Just don't harm any Scilenians

I think my troops would not enter that area if they see that Scilenia has conquered it and has authority over it, too.
They're there to hunt bogomils, after all.

You could orient my name for a more up and down thing and make it larger.Varasd wrote:2016. 03. 12. MAP UPDATE
Link to the updated regional map.
The large nations (not with the most territories, but with the greatest extend of land) are now marked with bigger letters. If you don't like it, tell me.
And how about a Gothic font?

Do you think my name is needed in Africa? If anyone moves in nearby you just would have to give them a different colour.

Re: Map discussion thread
The large letters make it look like Calabria's super important. And while i appreciate the sentiment, i think the larger letters are unjustified. Unless you could "curl" them...?

Re: Map discussion thread
I'm yet to find a good (and easy) software that can make that. I'll try to find one though.
Re: Map discussion thread
The new larger text for larger nations is interesting, but it seems a bit excessive. Perhaps instead of making it much larger it could be either a little bit larger, or a different font? Maybe the larger nations would keep the current font while smaller ones would have a different, not as bold font.
So, something like this:
In this case I didn't even use a different font, just made it a tad smaller and not bold.

Like:
Cybelos
Bithynia
Scilenia
I'd recommend picking a color for the empire, probably based on who holds the top title, and outlining the provinces in that color.

The main color would probably be Purple.

Re: Map discussion thread
I'd actually say red myself, fits the flag of the Empire.

Re: Map discussion thread
Yeah, one solid color is much more imposing. I agree on red.

Maybe a distinct red that nobody else has in order to distinguish ourselves? Red-violet or maroon maybe?

- Spoiler:
Just a little thing, can I get my capital re-added?
Not sure if Byz wants his, but there should at least be a capital labelled for the empire as a whole.

I'm sorry, I didn't intend to take your capital out in the first place! I'll put it back with the next map update!
Re: Map discussion thread
From this map, as my four major cities, I'll add: Rhodes, Alexandria, Venice, and Thessaloniki.
Preferably the dot can be black as to not to take away from the importance of Athens.

Hey Varasd, i put my capital in the wrong position on my claim. Geographically, the city of Abashahr should be here:
Would you mind updating the map with this correction next time you get a chance?

Sure, will do it with the next update!
Re: Map discussion thread
Hey guys, how do 'spreading religion' claims work? Like, do I have to ask permission from the church first? How much land can I go for?

If there is a higher authority, yes, you can claim lands for that reason. That's how Varasd has conquered Transylvania, from the Bogomil heretics.
There is only one thing to take into consideration: OOC reasoning is going to be applied sometimes in these decisions because somehow we need to prevent a member from simply conquering half the world to convert.

I see.
Technically, it would be historically accurate because I would only expand towards Sudan and as far as I am aware Egypt expanded into Sudan several times.
