The Gateway to the Eastern Orient

The Shi Empire, closest far eastern nation in the world. Ruled over by the Son of Heaven, Emperor Shi Liang I ruling over his people under the Mandate of Heaven. A Chinese philosophy in which granted emperors the right to rule Tianxia (under heaven) based on their ability to govern well and fairly. However this idea has been twisted just enough to keep the Shi Dynasty ruling. Now many from the west and east flock to Shi in a hopes of passing into east or west respectively. Traders flock to gain access to the luxury rich Asia, people who want to simply vanish travel to escape prosecution, some just flock for the culture, others for a new way life. One thing is clear however, Shi is here to stay.

Overall this is an IC RP threat based within and around the Shi Empire and the west intrests in the far east, you can be a traveler from Europe coming to see the sights, an ambassador from the west, a trader, criminal, or a citizen of the Empire. But what happens in Shi, stays in Shi.

Jīn Shī

The ox drawn cart drew slowly down the road towards Xinzhou-Shi.  The driver watched where he guided the cart through the slits in the front of his conical hat.  Behind him he could hear his wife playing with their daughters in the back of the cart among the family’s meager possessions.

“Now that we are in Shi my dears, we will be safe,” Jia said.

“We can’t be sure of that,” Jīn Shī said over his shoulder.  “There are probably still Song spies in the Western Empire.  I don’t think we will be safe until we go further west.”

“How much further west does the world go, papa?” asked Min.

“Much further, little one.  But I don’t intend for us to go that far.  Just until we get to my homeland, by the shore of the Great Sea.  We’ll rest in Xinzhou-Shi for a few days until we are ready to continue to the land of my fathers, the land of Heaven’s Lions.”

The gates of Xinzhou-Shi came into view.  Jīn Shī pulled his hat lower over his face to ensure his Mediterranean features were hidden.  Though there were many Europeans and West Asians along the Silk Road, the man once known as Malachi, the man who had taken the name “Golden Lion” would rather not raise any questions he did not need to, especially ones about his wife.

The City of Xinzhou-Shi was a marvel of Chinese architecture, being so far away from that of the Song China, this city stood as the capital of the Shi ruler ship over these lands. A large Chinese arch gate stood before the main city entrance. The gates open with guards standing a set of guards, who would only look over the cart for anything deemed illegal within Shi, or anything that might have been smuggled out.

"Halt." called out one of the guards, "We need to check over your cart, we will ask no questions about what's inside, unless it is considered illegal. That is all." Two guards walked over to that of the cart, waiting a response.

Jīn Shī

"Of course. It is just my wife and daughters and our worldly possessions. Some silks to trade in the west." Jīn Shī motioned the soldiers towards his cart while hiding his nervousness behind the eye slits of his hat.

They gave a small nod, looking through the cart.

"He's clean. He may enter." He turned and looked up towards the gate, "Open the gates!" Slowly but surely the gates to the city opened and he was allowed to enter.

Jīn Shī

Jīn Shī urged the ox onward and the cart drew forward into the city. He stopped briefly to ask direction to an inn where he and his family could gain lodging for the night. He directed Jia to stay with the cart until he had secured a room in the inn, then went inside.

A fine enough establishment, he supposed. Less than what his wife may have been used to, but she had become used to rough passage over the months. He came to the innkeeper.

"Excuse me, would you have a room for let for tonight, perhaps a few days past that? No credit is needed, I have coin." Jīn Shī reached into his purse and grabbed a couple coins. He paused a moment as he saw a man pay for his drink and cursed himself. Of course the Shi had a different coin than the Song. He finished pulling out the coins, hoping the innkeeper did not notice his hesitation and placed them before the man for his review. "A bed large enough for four, if you have it."

"Song coin eh?" the innkeeper asked, "Travel, welcome!" The man himself didn't appear to be competely Chinese, complexion wise he looked like central Asian, presumably Turkic or Persian. "A bed for four? We have two beds for two, best we got, I presume this is for now?"

Around the inn it was clear the wide range of different peoples from Japan and China to Poland and Hungary. A man paying with foreign coin wasn't uncommon by the looks of things. Jīn Shī could at least rest easy with that fact, if anyone knew him or claimed to know him could easily be passed off as a drunkard, and if not the wide range of people could mean he claim he wasn't who he was.

Jīn Shī

"Yes, please," replied Jīn Shī. "If the rooms will be ready, I will fetch my family. Excuse me." He exited the inn and retrieved his family then ushered them quickly up the stairs, moving the chest with their belongings into the room. "You girls are to remain in this room unless you are with me or your mother. Do you understand?" They nodded. He turned to Jia. "I don't want you leaving the room unless you absolutely have to, either. I will speak with the inn keeper and try to have meals brought up."

"Do you really think Song spies are here in Shi?"

"I don't know. I also don't know that we weren't followed from the East. So remain in the room as much as you can."

"I will." Jīn Shī reached his hand up and caressed his wife's face.

"I will return shortly." He left the room and went down to the inn keeper again. "The room is quite good, thank you. Would it be possible to have food brought to our room? My family is weary from the road and we would like to take our meal in a more relaxed setting."

An Aulden merchant is at the gates,
He speaks to the guards in a calm reassuring tone but alas what he was about to say would not be clear at first.

"Igh saley yemje, sliper yejese mak gat land ariber Nēhōn.
Ighl be ad yejese dāl pōr te natje. Ās gat pōr yemje?"

Very little people know Aulden

The small caravan

Eight very old-looking men approach the great city's gate mounting their donkeys and pulling their additional animals with ropes. One of them dismounts and get close to one of the guards.

"We're coming from a faraway kingdom as merchants, and would like to trade at your markets. How can we get the permits to do so?" asked Aaron Pinto with a calm tone.
