The Irish Unification War Empty The Irish Unification War

Post by Werjin Tue Jan 31, 2017 5:44 pm

The Irish Unification War is a conflict that spans the entire Irish Island between the unified duchy's of Munster and Lenister against the remnants of the orders of Connaught and Ulster for control of the land. The war involves 1300 units of units, be limited to Ireland and will decide the fate of the isle.

The war has actually lasted for centuries, ever since the fall of Rome. However, it truly started with the invasion of Munster by Connaught in an attempt to kill Lenister. This backfired and ultimately lead to driving Connaught and its ally Ulster to the west where they state that one battle will decide the fate of Ireland.

The Irish Unification War Empty Preperations

Boyne Valley, Ireland
1005 AD

The hills, occasional tree, a river and shrubbery were all that stood between the the two forces and the fate of Ireland. Numerical advantage was with the United Duchy, but they could easily be outrun by the tougher Irish Order, who had proper armor to counter their arrows and javelins. Both sides stood still as they awaited their leader's order to charge into the valley.

Duke Sean O'Brien stood in front of what units he was able to muster: half were Kerns, who wouldn't stand a chance against their tougher Gallowglass enemies. With them were a couple Horseboys as well as a division of javelinmen and Otsmen. The 3 Gallowglass divisions alone were concerning but to know that experienced Otsmen were also engaging were even more concerning. Many of them had these thoughts on their minds as they cleaned their swords and prepared their bows. Just then, Sean started speaking. Everyone knew why he was named the future king of Ireland: he was brave, wise, just and charismatic; traits every good man should have.

"Lads of Ireland," he opened in a soft tone. "Today is the day that history is made. The day when the victors decide the future of this land and your descendant's fates. I know all of ye are frightened to face the enemy. I am too." It was brave of him to admit his fears; honesty was a good trait to have on the emerald isle. "However," he stated boldly. "Do ye want those damn bastards to go about and reverse the work we have done in these last 2 decades, to return Ireland to anarchy? I say nay to that! Today, we are not fighting superior weapons solely for the sake of our children or for history. We do this for the better of our people!"
Men started to stand up.
"For the fate of this bloody island!"
They began beating their spears on the ground.
"For Ireland!"
Cheers erupted from the crowd as they waved their weapons in the air and shouted, some chanting, "For Ireland and the Lord!" They knew that their blood spilled would bring a new age for Ireland. Not only for them, but for their children and their children's children.

Each side has their forces at the ready, as only the Boyne River separated the sides. The war horns erupted in noise and 1300 men flood down both sides at the same time. Yet, while the Order of Ireland simply rushed forward, without a thought about their lives, the Duchy has their javelins and kerns slowly pick them off while the Otsmen prepared to surround their enemy. They were badly outnumbered; it took 3 of their men to kill a gallowglass. However, their arrows were easily picking off the slowly falling 500 men that were slaughtering their Otsmen.

By the afternoon, the combat had died down as the number of dead, wounded, alive and missing were counted. Once the totals were numbered, the leader of the Irish Order handed his blade to Sean as a sign of defeat. The war had finally concluded after centuries of conflict. The terms were simple: the last of the territory in Ireland that was not of the new duchy was to be handed to Sean under peaceful means. Ireland was finally united. Their next target: Britannia.
