Alex

As Alex walked on the road leading to Perols, he wondered if what he heard was true. Have the Greeks truly landed in Europe? If so, why?

These thoughts have been going through his head as soon as he was dispatched many days ago. He was told to find the Greeks, and why they were in Western Europe. His only clue was that of the sighting of a ship near Rome. Had those flags been raised as a taunt, or a simple show of courtesy?

After travelling to Northern Italy, he heard rumors from several merchants that Greek sailors had landed in France. Along his way, he began to know of their exact location; Perols.

After reaching the town, he went to the nearest sailor. Speaking in French, he asked:

"Hey! Are you one of the Greek sailors? If not, could you point me to one?"

Captain Alexios

The captain looked up at the man who had interrupted his exercises.

"Be kind to the locals" He tried desperately to practice this order.

Alexios stood and, understanding the word 'Greek' and the inquisitive tone, he felt he had all he needed.
He would speak in Latin, hoping it was a common tongue between the two men.

"Right, er, yeah, Yeah, I'm a Greek." "Can I help you?" Alexios struggled to get the last part out in a pseudo friendly tone.

Alex

Alex understood Latin, and so he understood Alexios. Alex decided that a false identity would give him better chances at finding out what was happening.

"Ah, Hello. I am Alex. I am a local, and I heard that a few Greeks had landed. I was wondering if I could perhaps understand what is going on?"

Captain Alexios

"You heard correct, citizen. We are to train the Auvergnat Navy in dealing with the pirates that haunt the western Mediterranean." Alexios spoke quickly, and rehearsed.

You can see my Admiral, Constans, if you need to, he's the man with the greying hair over by that wooden building. That, or you know, you could speak to your local Lord."

Alexios had no reason to lie, as much as he may have wanted to tell the man they were sent to pick flowers for the Empress.

Alex

Alex nodded his head and spoke:

"Very well, sir. Thank you and farewell!"

Alex bid farewell, and walked over to Admiral Constans.

"Hello, good sir. I am a local, and I heard that a group of Greek men had landed on these shores. I just spoke to that man doing exercises, over there."

Alex pointed to the man.

"He told me that you could perhaps give more detail into what is happening here?"

Admiral Constans Semnos

"Ah he did now? What a resourceful young man he is." Constans said, glaring at the captain under his command.

"Your Marquis or Earl, or whatever it happens to be you Frenchmen call it should have informed you all, I would have thought."

"No matter citizen, we have been dispatched to train the French navy in maritime warfare, and in how to greatly reduce the risk of piracy. That is all I know, my superiors deigned not to give me anything more than that."

"I hope that answers your questions lad, I must really get back to it. If it's joining the navy you're after, you'll have to speak with your brother Frenchmen."
